Perfumery, or the art of creating perfumes, originates in ancient Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, later perfected by the ancient Romans and Persians.

According to the written records of the first chemist who made perfume is considered a woman called Taputati. She is a perfumer whose name is mentioned in a texture from the second millennium before Christ in Mesopotamia. It distills flowers, oils and swamp aire with other aromatic substances, then filters them and returns them back to the distiller several times in a row.
